In this section, which in our opinion is the most important section, we hope to give you a small insight into each breed. This however is no substitution to reading and researching your chosen breed, meeting owners of them, and talking to breeders BEFORE you even go to look at a puppy. Both breeds take a lot of time, money, effort, patience and understanding, and if you lack in even one of these then maybe you should think again. Every so called bad dog you read about in the paper, started off as a cute little puppy, who was then shaped by circumstances out of its control. The puppy you go to look at will not be the dog you will spend many years with as it becomes an adult. Please be sure that these breeds are for you, as if it goes wrong ,it can really go wrong.
To start with, you should ensure that any dog, any breed, you decide on should have a good sound basic training platform to work from. Even if you decide that you do not want to go on to work, show them, a well trained dog is a joy to behold. Both these particular breeds, love to work, but particularly with GSDs they can be very much a one person dog, so you must be aware of that.
That said, with proper training and care each of these breeds will love you as much as you love them. GSDs have had very bad press over the years, but for every one there are thousands who, save lives, work in the forces, live in homes quite happily without any incidents.
The best piece of advice with regards to both breeds is you can never do too much research. And when someone tells you they will become a way of life, it really is true.
